If you are currently working in the field of facility management (or have an interest in this career field) as a planner, property manager, plant manager, facility manager, plant engineer or other related areas you can enhance job opportunities while earning a formal credential sitting at your computer.  This online program is designed for working professionals and can be completed in ONLY 2 years. 
You will share a virtual classroom with facility management professionals from around the world while earning a Purdue University degree.  This is a unique program that will increase your knowledge and professionalism and therefore, your value as a facilities manager. 

Description: The M.S. Degree in Technology, Facilities Management Emphasis is an on-line graduate program designed for the working student. The program provides an integrated experience in facilities management with emphasis on project and contract management, engineering systems management and energy management. The program also requires an independent direct project in the area of facilities management.


Degree Requirements
: 33 credit hours with a minimum graduation GPA of 3.0.

  • Energy Management for Buildings
  • Facilities Contract Management
  • Facilities Maintenance and Operation
  • Facilities Planning and Management
    The overall planning process for facilities is presented including: space planning; facilities layout; engineering systems integration; site selection; OSHA and EPA compliance; and compliance with ADA requirements. Additionally, topics related to management or organization of the facility function will be discussed including: management functions; how facility management fits into the organization structure; professional conduct and certification of facility professionals; and risk management.  These areas of planning are presented in an integrated manner along with different modeling and simulation approaches.

  • Financial and Assessment Management
  • Introduction to Energy, Economics and Business
  • Introduction to Facilities Engineering Systems
    This course introduces the design criteria, operation, safety, maintenance, testing and assessment of building engineering systems. The inter-relationships of fire protection, HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, lighting, telecommunication and energy management are examined. (Offered Fall 2007, TECH 581)

Admission Requirements
You may apply for admission to the program, if you:

  • Have completed or will be completing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Coursework or knowledge of trigonometry and statistics.
  • Obtained an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Have taken the GRE (Graduate Record Examination).  General test and obtained scores above the 50th percentile for unconditional admission, or obtained scores above the 30th percentile for conditional admission.

of non-US institutions and whose first
language is not English are required to take
the Test of English as a Foreign Language
(TOEFL).  A minimum score of 550 on the paper version or 213 on the computer version is required.
